Positive behaviour support for individuals

The Behaviour Intervention Support Service (BISS) provides positive behavioural support to individuals, families, carers, service providers and other professionals.

BISS supports people 12 years of age and over with an intellectual disability and demonstrate challenging behaviours and who are living with their family.

BISS uses positive approaches in identifying and managing these challenging behaviours and offers flexibility in the type of services offered. Each plan is designed to meet each person's needs.

The aims of the service include:

• Improving the quality of life for people who demonstrate challenging behaviours.
• Ensuring early identification and interventions to address the cause of the behaviours.
• Ensuring services meet the needs of the individuals, their families, carers, and/or service providers through providing support to manage or prevent challenging behaviours.

 Who does BISS work with?

The families and carers, service providers and other professionals living and working with those aged 12 years and over with an intellectual disability and challenging behaviours.

BISS will give priority to people who extra need help because they are:

• At risk of losing their placement at a day program.
• A threat to themselves or others.
• A member of a multiple disability family.
• At risk of losing their current living arrangements.
• Are from a single parent family.

Assistance can be provided to individuals and families / carers who live within the following Local Government Areas:

• Campbelltown
• Camden
• Wollondilly
• Liverpool
• Fairfield
• Bankstown
